GEORGE AND
LESTON’S PRACTICAL GUIDE TO PARIS
This is not a sightseeing guide,
but rather a compendium of practical
information we have gathered through the years, revised in July
2005.
PRICES: All prices
are in EUROS (€). The European Union says the euro symbol €
should go before the number, but in France it is generally seen after
it, or even between the euro and eurocent figure where the decimal
point would be in the U.S., i.e. 10€50 instead of €10,50. The
use of the comma and decimal point is generally reversed from the U.S.
style: €10,50 (10 euros and 50 eurocents), €65.000.000 (65
million euros).
Prices are current as of July 2005, unless followed by a
“+” indicating that they have not been updated for at least
two years. Many prices have increased appreciably in recent years.
PRONUNCIATION: For
those who have no knowledge of French, we have tried to show a very
rough approximation of pronunciation of some items. An [n] in brackets
indicates nasalization.
